BRAND STRATEGY CONSULTANT FOR FOUNDERS AND CEOs
You can explain the difference. Your company can't.
I work with founders and CEOs to define what the company stands on, why the right customers choose it, and what the business has to do to make that difference believable. If you're preparing to grow, reposition, or rebrand, we get the strategy clear before you invest in what comes next.
“Scott has been a steady voice of clarity for me and for Vessel. He listens beneath the surface and helps us name what really matters. Every time we work together, the fog lifts—our belief, message, and next move snap into focus. His guidance has played a big part in shaping who we are today.”
—Ronnie Shaw, Founder & CEO, Vessel Golf
When the difference still has to come from you.
You know why the company matters. You can explain the thinking behind the product, the way you serve customers, and the decisions that set you apart.
That understanding hasn't made it into the rest of the business. So you're still the one who settles it. Every pricing exception, every borderline hire, every "would we ever do that" comes back to your desk, because you're the only place the answer lives.
Sales, leadership, and marketing each tell a different story.
Buyers compare you on features or price because they can't see a difference worth paying for.
A new website or identity is on the calendar, and the team still disagrees on what it should say.
The company has outgrown the position that got it here, and nothing has replaced it.
These are brand strategy problems. More marketing before you resolve them is paying to spread the confusion.
Positioning establishes the place you want to hold. Messaging explains it. Your identity makes it recognizable. The business has to make it true. The distance between the first three and the last one is the Say-Do Gap™, and it's where most of the work is.
What a brand strategy consultant has to decide with you.
A useful brand strategy is a set of choices your team can act on:
Who you're for. The customers whose needs and values fit what you do best, and the business you'll stop chasing.
Where you stand. The position you'll hold in your market, relative to the alternatives your buyers actually weigh.
Why you're different. A reason to choose you that survives without the words quality, service, or innovation.
What you promise. The expectation a customer can bring to every interaction with the company.
How you prove it. The decisions, standards, and evidence that make the promise credible.
Most consultants stop at the fourth. The fifth is the one that costs something, so it's the one I start from.
What a brand strategy consultant has to decide with you.
My approach starts with belief: the conviction that shapes how your company competes and what it refuses to compromise. The Belief Method™ finds that conviction in decisions you've already made, then turns it into a standard your people can use without you in the room.
I work with a founder who turned down a national retail account, shelved a finished collection, and killed a fabric his team liked. None of it was written down anywhere. All of it was the brand. When we named the belief underneath those decisions, he flinched, because a belief on paper is something other people can hold you to. Then he read it again and saw it for what it was: a record of what he'd already paid for. That's the version of a brand strategy that holds.
A strategy that can't point to a decision like that isn't a strategy yet. It's a claim. The claim is free. The decisions aren't. My work connects the strategy to the choices that make it expensive to fake: what you sell, how you price it, who you hire, and what customers experience.
Who this if for.
Founders and CEOs of companies between roughly $5M and $100M in revenue, 25 to 500 people, usually at the moment the old position stops working: a round just closed, a new CMO or sales leader just started, an acquisition is being integrated, an exit is on the horizon, or a rebrand and new site are already budgeted.
It's not for marketing teams working without the founder in the room, companies that want a logo and a website before the position is settled, or leaders looking for validation rather than diagnosis. If that's where you are, I'll say so on the call.
Work directly with Scott Hancock.
I'm a brand strategist and the founder of SayDoBrand™, with more than 20 years building brands, including my work as CEO and Partner at BLVR®. I've worked across startups, challenger brands, established companies, and nonprofits, and I've been the founder responsible for making the decisions a strategy asks of the business.
There's no team between us. I ask the questions, challenge the answers, and test every part of the strategy against what the company has actually done.
How the work takes shape.
These are working sessions, not presentations. You draft between them. In the room, I test the answers, challenge the safe language, and hold each part against the decisions the company has actually made. If a value has no disqualifier, it isn't a value yet. We keep going until it is.
01
NAME IT
Four working sessions with the founder, CEO, or accountable leader, with drafting between them. We find the belief in decisions the company has already made and write it precisely enough that someone who isn't you could enforce it. You leave with the One-Page Belief System and the full architecture behind it: positioning, differentiation, values with disqualifiers, decision filters, non-negotiables, and a quarterly Say-Do Gap review.
See The Belief System.
02
THE BRAND BUILD
What the belief looks and sounds like. Verbal identity: voice, messaging, narrative, tagline, and naming when the name no longer fits. Visual identity: logo system, typography, color, art direction, and photography direction. All of it captured in brand guidelines your team or agency can work to, with me setting the position and holding the standard through every piece.

03
THE BELIEF ADVISORY
Ongoing counsel for the person at the top. A standing session, the belief driven into live work across campaigns, product, sales, hiring, and customer experience, and a quarterly Say-Do Gap review that catches drift while it's still cheap to correct. The System names it. The Build expresses it. The Advisory is where the company proves it.

Tell me what you’re facing.
Every quarter it stays unnamed, the company grows around its absence. Tell me what you're facing and we'll find where it's hiding.
Then I'll tell you the best path forward, whether that's the Belief System, a full Brand Build, or nothing from me at all. This isn't a pitch. It's the start of the work.
